Charmaine Tay

Head Coach, Stagelights by Lighthouse Dance

Charmaine was the first Singaporean to graduate with a M.Sc. in Dance Science from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2013. She currently lectures in both Dance and Musical Theatre departments of Lasalle College of The Arts (Singapore), covering modules from Dance Science, Anatomy and Dance pedagogy, to Body conditioning, Advanced ballet and Advanced Jazz. Charmaine is also certified in the Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), and has a track record of producing 100% Honours and Honours plus in Jazz examinations. She also coaches the competition groups and elite students, who have constantly placed top 5 in local and international dance competitions, as well as helped them achieve successful direct-school admission (DSA) applications through private coaching. Charmaine also performs physical examinations, and prescribes strength and conditioning exercises for local students auditioning to study abroad at London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS).

Charmaine was selected to be a member of the Dance Educators committee for the International Association of Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) in 2020. In the same year, she also lead the *Scape DanceScience team to produce bi-weekly articles to educate local educators and dancers on topics of dance science through articles, webinars and workshops. Some of her works have also been featured on Progressing Ballet Technique’s website. Charmaine is also an active member of Singapore medical associations’ performing arts medicine group. She has been invited to guest-speak and lecture by various organisations such as National Arts Council, Ministry of Education, Singapore Medical Association, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Changi General Hospital Sports Medicine Department, and *SCAPE Invasion.
